Marysville Fire District Honors Career of Chief Darryl Neuhoff

After nearly four decades of service to our community, Marysville Fire District congratulates Chief Darryl Neuhoff on his retirement.

Neuhoff’s firefighting career began in 1983 at Snohomish County Fire District 20, serving the Lake Goodwin area. He became a volunteer firefighter, career firefighter and then Lieutenant before being promoted to Fire Chief. Neuhoff joined the Marysville Fire District in 1998 as part of the consolidation and merger with Fire District 20. He served as Deputy Chief of Fleet, Facilities and Support Services before being named Interim Chief at Marysville Fire District in 2022. Neuhoff remained in that position until Ned Vander Pol joined the district as Fire Chief in February 2023.

“We are truly grateful for Chief Neuhoff’s dedication to the residents and employees of Marysville Fire District,” Vander Pol said. “Darryl’s leadership has helped this agency progress during a period of explosive growth and change. There is no doubt he impacted fire and emergency services in this community for the better. He will be very missed.”

The district honored Neuhoff Thursday with a ceremony and flag presentation featuring the Marysville Fire District Honor Guard. Those attending included various local fire agency chief officers and elected officials from both the City of Marysville and Snohomish County Fire District 12, demonstrating Neuhoff’s impact on the region. For him, the sendoff was bittersweet.

The fire service allowed me to train, learn, and practice the skills necessary to help impact people’s lives,” Neuhoff said. “As a firefighter, we get to make a difference and that makes it all so worthwhile.

“There are people stepping up to make sure agencies are working together, helping each other, making things safer and better for both the residents and the firefighters throughout Snohomish County,” Neuhoff said. “To be a part of that, to work with all these people…that is hard to walk away from.”

Neuhoff is looking forward to traveling and time with grandchildren. We wish him a long and happy retirement ahead!
