Marysville Fire District Fire Marshal Tom Maloney has been named Washington State Fire Marshal of the Year by the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals (WSAFM).

“Fire Marshal of the Year is a coveted award bestowed upon individuals who stand out amongst a group of highly professional individuals who put the safety of their communities as their highest calling,” said State Fire Marshal Charles LeBlanc. “Having worked with Tom on many occasions, he is passionate in his calling and strives every day to better the lives of those around him through fire prevention and community risk reduction efforts. He represents the very best in what Fire Marshals do, and he does so with strong leadership, humility, and professionalism.”

Marysville’s Fire Marshal since 2008, Maloney’s uses a “community risk reduction” approach to his position. He oversees business inspections, plan reviews and public education for the fire district.

“I was speechless when I found out,” Maloney said of receiving the award. “I am humbled that the committee would choose me when we work with so many fire marshals who are deserving of this award. I love what I do and I thank WSAFM for continuing to recognize professionals across our state working to keep our communities safer.”

Chief Maloney previously served as Snohomish County Fire Marshal and Fire Chief in Polson, Montana. He is the vice-president of Washington State Fire Marshal’s Association. He holds a master’s degree in public administration, Chief Fire Office and Fire Marshal Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. He is proudly married to Kim and the humble parent of Caitlin, Megan, Brianna, and Cullen.
