Marysville firefighters rescued one person and found another person deceased while responding to a house fire early Thursday in the 7900 block of 72nd Dr NE.
Firefighters dispatched to the fire just before 3 a.m. after receiving a report of heavy smoke in the three-story residence. Firefighters found one adult male in a first floor bedroom and transported him to the hospital as a precaution. Another adult male was found deceased in a bedroom in the basement area of the home.
A total of seven people lived inside the home. No other injuries were reported. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. Damage, which was mostly contained to the basement and first story of the home, is still being tallied. American Red Cross volunteers responded to assist residents.
There is no indication this home had working smoke alarms, which is the case in three out of every five home fire deaths.
We urge all residents to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home to save lives. Residential fire sprinklers can also dramatically reduce the heat, flames and smoke produced in a fire. Click here for more information on how fire sprinklers can make your home safer.
