Apartment Fire Displaces Seven Residents

(February 18, 2023) Seven residents are displaced following a fire that damaged an apartment building in Marysville early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 10th Street and Columbia Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. The first crew arrived within five minutes to find flames coming from a second-story unit. Firefighters assisted one elderly resident in evacuating from a different unit. All other residents safely escaped on their own and no one was hurt.

It took just over an hour to extinguish the. Fire damaged two apartments and six other units received smoke and water damage. American Red Cross volunteers are assisting displaced residents. The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The building did not contain fire sprinklers and was constructed before current sprinkler requirements were enacted.

This is the third fire in our community in less than a week. We urge everyone to test your smoke alarms and make sure they are working. Replace your smoke alarms if they are over 10 years old. Create a home fire escape plan with your family that includes two ways out of every room. You will likely have just minutes to escape if fire happens to you.

We thank the Everett Fire Department, Snohomish County Fire District 19 and Snohomish County Fire District 22 for providing mutual aid in this incident.
